Buenos Aires, December 11 (NA) -- The Argentine Association of News Entities (ADEPA) held its annual end-of-year meeting this Thursday, bringing together entrepreneurs, officials, journalists, and media outlets to debate the role of journalism today and highlight the importance of freedom of expression, both in the exercise of communication and in society.
According to the Argentine News Agency, the event, held at the Sheraton Hotel in Buenos Aires, was attended by almost the entire national cabinet, including Chief of Staff Manuel Adorni; Ministers Sandra Pettovello (Human Capital) and Diego Santilli (Interior); President of the Chamber of Deputies, Martin Menem; and National Senator Patricia Bullrich.
On behalf of the Judicial Power, Supreme Court Justice Horacio Rosatti attended the event, and from the Legislative Power, National Deputies Maximiliano Ferraro (Civic Coalition - ARI), Cristian Ritondo (PRO), and Nicolás Massot (Hacemos) were also present, among others.
The governors of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil, and San Juan, Marcelo Orrego, also attended.
Throughout the evening, a special mention was awarded to the judges who formed part of the tribunal that conducted the Trial of the Juntas, on the 40th anniversary of the conviction signed by magistrates León Arslanián, Ricardo Gil Lavedra, Jorge Valerga Aráoz, and Guillermo Ledesma, and a tribute was paid to the deceased Andrés D'Alessio and Jorge Torlasco.
To conclude, ADEPA's Honorary Awards were presented to journalist Guillermo Ignacio, who has over 60 years in local journalism, and to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, "for her struggle in favor of freedom of expression and democracy" in her country.
